Needed tools

Xenofex 2

Open a new image 400 X 400 transparent. We'll resize this later but this will give you some room to work.

Add the tube that you would like to this layer. make sure that the tube is smaller than your image as you need some transparent room along the sides.

Rename this layer "Tube".

Add a new layer and name it "Pattern".

Fill this layer with your desired pattern and add any cutout or bevel effects that you like.

In your layer palette, make a BUNCH of duplicates of your pattern layer. If you make too many, you can always delete them later.

Turn off all layers except the tube and the  bottom COPY OF PATTERN layer. Activate the Copy of Pattern layer that is on.

Use your selection tool, shape set to Rounded Rectangle, and make a SMALL rectangle in the center of your pattern.

Apply Xenofex 2, Rip open. Once Rip open is open, press your F5 key to insure that you load the factory default setting. Press ok.

DO NOT DESELECT

In your layer palette, turn OFF the Copy of Pattern layer that you just applied Xenofex to and activate the next layer up.

Selections > Modify > Expand > 20

Apply Xenoxes 2 again, same settings.

Turn off that layer and activate the layer above it.

Expand your selection by 20 again. (as the selection gets bigger, you may want to increase this to 25 or 30).

Apply Xenoxes 2.

Do this to each layer until the hole in your image is big enough to expose the tube that you started with.

NOW you can deselect.

Turn on ALL layers. Your image should look something like this.

Save in PSP format.

Open Animation Shop.

Click File > Preferences > General Program Preferences > Layered Files.

Make sure that Each frame shows first and current frame is selected and click ok.

Open your image. The first frame will be selected automatically. Press the delete key one time on your keyboard.

Press CTRL + A to select all.

Right click and select Frame Properties

Change the speed to about 40.

The higher the number, the slower the animation.

Press SHIFT + S to bring up the resize window.

Resize to something more reasonable. I resized to 60% of original.

Click View > Animation to see your animation, if the speed is not correct, go back and change it.

To get the image below, here's what I did.

CTRL + A to select all. Press CTRL + C to copy and CTRL + V to paste as a new animation.

The new animation, I deleted the first and last frames. Select all. Click Animation > reverse frames.

CTRL + C to copy. You can close this animation now without saving.

Activate your original animation. Left click on the last frame to select it. Right click on the last frame and a menu will drop down. Select Paste > After current frame.

To get the image below. Select all, right click and select animation Properties. Click the Looping tab. Tell it to play only once.

HINT...By the time you get to this part, you will have to refresh your page to see it open, but it's a nice effect for the opening image on a web page.
