Custom Paintbrushes on PSP 8 and 9

Open a new image 255 X 255 transparent.

In earlier version of PSP, this size had to be exact. Now it is only a starting point.

Add whatever tubes you would like. I will be making a flowery brush.

I have each flower in a separate layer to make positioning easier.

When you have your tubes where you want them, merge visible layers.

If your image has unneeded transparency around the edges, copy and paste as a new image (CTRL + V).

Click File > Export > Custom Brush

Give your new brush a name.

Close all of the image you have open on your screen.
Open a new transparent image, any size.
Click on your paintbrush tool.

In your top toolbar, click here to select the brush that you would like to use.

You will find your new brush listed there. Click on it to use it.

Set your color palette to the color that you would like to use.
Click on your image.
I had my foreground color set to medium blue.

Hint, Clicking with your left mouse key will use the foreground color.
The right mouse key will use the background color.

To make your paintbrush image into a background, as I did for this tutorial,
click layers > Merge > flatten. Click Effects > Image effects > Seamless tile.
