Animated Flag

Needed Tools
We will be making two images which will be merged in Animation shop. The first image will be the flag. Open a transparent image 400 X 300.
Flood with white. Make a new layer. Set your draw tool to straight line, size 20, vector Unchecked, stoke=Red, fill=NULL. Hold your SHIFT key down as you draw a red line across the top of your image. Make sure it is the FULL width of the image. CTRL + C to copy. CTRL + E to paste on the same layer. Continue to paste until your flag looks like the one below. Merge visible layers.
Use your Magic wand tool. Hold your SHIFT key down and click on each of your red lines. CTRL + F to float. Apply Cutout with these settings.
Selections > Invert. CTRL + F to float again. Apply the same cutout settings. deselect. Make a new layer Use your selection tool set to rectangle and select the upper left section of the flag, fill with Blue. Make a new layer.
Activate your preset shapes tool and select a star shape, Create as Vector unchecked. Stole = NULL, Fill = White. Hold your SHIFT key down and draw your first star. Copy and paste onto the same layer until you have the top row of stars pasted. Copy again Paste again. Now you will be pasting the entire second row. Continue to paste until you have all the stars on your flag. Apply Inner Bevel using the Pillow preset with the Ambience raised to 60.
In your layer palette, Turn OFF your merged layer and merge visible, Select all (CTRL + A) Use your selection tool and click on your blue rectangle. Float. Apply the same Cutout effect. Deselect. Turn all layers back on and merge visible.
In your layer palette, you now have only one layer called Merged. make two duplicates of your merged layer. Activate the top layer. Apply Xenofex 2 > Flag. Select the Simple Flag setting and click OK.
Your image will look like the one below.
In your layer palette, click on the middle layer and apply the same flag effect but move the Wind strength up about a half inch. Click OK.
In your layer palette, click on the bottom layer. Apply the flag effect again, moving the wind strength up another half inch. Your image will look something like this one.
In your layer palette, duplicate your middle layer. send the duplicate to the bottom.
Save your image in PSP format. WHEW! That does it for the first image, the second one will be much easier, promise.
Open a new image 400 X 700 transparent.
Set your draw tool to straight line, size=20, Stoke=White, Fill= NULL Hold your SHIFT key down as you draw a line down the left edge of your image. You like should not actually touch the edge. Effects > 3D effects > Texture Effects > Sculpture > Gold preset. Inner Bevel Pillow preset with the Ambience set to 60.
Make a new layer.
Use your selection tool set to Circle. Make a small circle and fill with white, place it at the top of your Flag pole. Apply the same Sculpture effect and the same Inner Bevel effect.
Make a new layer.
Use your draw tool. Size=2, line type=Freehand, Create as vector still Unchecked, Stole= white, Fill= NULL. Place your mouse just at the bottom of your circle and draw a wavy line in front of your flap pole. Inner bevel using the ROUND preset.
Make a new layer.
Draw another line that intersects with the first line in several places. Inner Bevel.
Merge visible layers, save in psp format.
Open Animation Shop. Click File > New and 0pen a new, transparent image 400 X 700.
Duplicate your frame until you have a total of 4 frames. Click File>Preferences>General Program Preferences>Layered Files. Be sure that Each Layer is in a separate frame, click ok. Open your flag image. Select all (CTRL + A) and copy (CTRL + C) Select your new image. Select all, paste (CTRL + E). You will see that there is a flag on each frame.
Open your Flag pole. There will only be one frame. Duplicate until you have a total of 4 frames. Select all, copy. Activate your new image, select all, paste.
This will insure that the ropes go over the flag.
Select all, right click and select Frame properties from the drop down menu. Change the default number there from 10 to 25, click ok. SHIFT+S to bring up the resize window. Resize to 50% of original. Save and your done. GREAT job!
