Making a background out of a pattern

Making a background out of a pattern

Click File > New and make a BIG image

In your color palette, You can select Solid color, gradient, pattern or NULL (NULL means nothing)

here's how

Click on your Flood Fill tool

On your color palette, located along the right edge of your paint Shop pro window,

Click and HOLD your mouse on either foreground or background.

This menu will pop down

Once you have selected pattern, click again without holding this time.

This window will pop up

Click on the arrow as shown above and you will then be able to select the pattern that you like

If the pattern is one that u have open in Paint shop Pro, it will be located at the top of this window

I have the foreground set to the brick pattern.

Once you have the pattern in your color palette, LEFT clicking will fill with the FOREGROUND

RIGHT click with fill with the BACKGROUND

Fill the image with the pattern that you would like to use make into a background

Use your selection tool

Set the selection type to rectangle.

Make a small rectangle in the center of your image

Click Selections > Convert to seamless pattern

A new image will pop up onto your screen. That is your pattern

Save in jpg format

The pattern that I created while writing this tutorial is also that pattern that I used for this background

Making a pattern from an image

G0 to this web page to download the free plug in that you will need

http://www.btinternet.com/~cateran/simple/

Here are the places that you should look for on this page

Make sure you get at least the set of 10, the bonus is up to you.

Also

Read these instructions, download this file and put it in your windows/system folder.

You will need to turn off Paint Shop pro and turn it back on again.

Ok now we're ready to start

Open the picture that you would like to use for a background.

I am using a picture of my daughter.

Click File > Plug in Filters > Simple > Quick Tile

The window that you will see has no settings to mess with, just click apply.

For the next step you have to make sure that your picture is on a layer. This is easy to do.
click Layers.
At the bottom, where it says Promote to layer. If this is clickable (as shown below) click it.

If it is not clickable, then it is already a layer and you don't need to do anything at all.

Click Layers > Properties

Lower to opacity to about 30

Your image will look like this

Click Layers > Merge > Flatten

Now it looks like it will look when it is a background, I added a border around the image below so you can see
the difference between the background and the image.

Save in jpg format
